Is the point of the gospel to make people believe specific content or to make people like Jesus?

Jesus was a rabbi not a professor. In his first century context, content-only discipleship wasn’t an option. His disciples were not simply students only trying to learn from him; they were trying to be like him. And Jesus wasn’t trying to just disseminate information; he was creating a movement of disciples. That’s why Jesus only chose twelve men and sought time with them away from the large crowds.

Disciples aren’t mass-produced. Disciples are handcrafted. And discipleship is the ultimate end zone for the church—not programs, not events. Only by reorienting itself around discipleship can the church follow Jesus and the people of the church become like him.
