Kids Searching for PORN

My friend Chris sent me this story about the top search results for kids.

Surely this is a mistake???  I mean I can’t imagine JAC, who is 5, searching for porn on the internet. (Or anywhere for that matter!)

But how sad. I didn’t know what porn was till my cousin showed me one of his father’s videos when I was about 11. I remember being amazed and scared all at the same time. I didn’t see porn again till I was 13. My mom caught me watching an HBO Real Sex in my bedroom. I stumbled upon on accident. That same cousin’s mom told my mom it was on and she should check my room because she just caught my cousin watching it. I was just sitting above the bed on top of my covers….again I was amazed and scared…and now caught.

Those introductions to porn were the beginning of what has now been a 20 year battle with temptation. I wish a man would have taught me about porn before I “found” it. I truly believe that I never understand it’s danger and destruction.

Seeing these findings today makes me even more interested in educating my children early on about pornography.

  1. I bet the young kids are searching that word because they want to know what it is, but they don’t feel like they can ask. I remember being about six or seven when I learned some “dirty” jokes and told them to my mom, who quickly schooled me on how they were not appropriate, nor even funny. A few years later, my brother and I were giggling at the bookstore because we saw a Playboy magazine. My mom grabbed the magazine, opened it up to the centerfold, and showed it to us. We were stunned, but also got over the giggling. I appreciated her frankness, and have tried to be as open with my kids about sexuality as she was.
